Negative or Positive? ....

Two brothers are identical twins. Even though they looked exactly alike, they were the complete opposite when it came to their personalities. One always looked on the positive, he saw good in everybody and everything. The other brother always looked at the negative, he never saw good in anything, anywhere.

Their birthday was coming up so Mum and Dad decided to try an experiment with them, to see if there was any way that the two boys could find some balance in how they looked at things. To the one who always looked at the negative, they gave him a brand new bike. To the one who looked at the positive, they gave a bag filled with straw.

When the boys had gone to bed the night before their birthday, they put the presents in the living room with their names on them to see what would happen. The next morning the boys run downstairs to see what presents Mum and Dad had given them. The one who looked at the negative said, “A bike, why did you give me a bike?” “ It’s winter and too cold to go outside and not only that I will probably fall off and hurt myself. I cannot believe you got me a bike.”

The boy who looked on the positive, opened his present, found the bag of straw and thought for a minute. Suddenly he runs out into the garden and begins looking around. Mum, Dad and his brother are really puzzled and ask him, “What are you doing?” He replies, “Well after getting that bag of straw, I just know there’s a pony round here somewhere, I just haven’t found it yet.”

Attitude can make a difference. When things happen we have two choices, take the positive or negative view. The high road or the low road. The high road is to remain positive and look for the good in your situation, the low road is to be negative and to see only the bad. Circumstances don’t have to control life, we can instead control how those circumstances affect us.

We have every reason to take the high road. Because of the Lord Jesus Christ we have hope, He is in control and we have the victory Jesus won on the cross. Paul was in prison when he wrote, Rejoice in the Lord always, I will say it again, rejoice. (Philippians 4:4) It’s the kind of attitude we need to have. If you have been feeling a little bit down, reach out to Jesus, there is hope.

With every blessing,

Garry.
